Peshawar — Two new polio case have been recorded in two different districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. A two and half year old child Mustafa in Bajaur Tribal district and 16-month old Anam in Lakki Marwat district were identified as polio-affected patients.
Bajuar’s local officials had sent samples of Mustafa to the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad for medical test on December 26, 2018. The boy is a resident of Shaikhan village of Tehsil Salarzai in Bajaur tribal district.
According to the Focal Person to Prime Minister on Polio Eradication, Babar Bin Atta, father of the child had refused of the polio vaccination to his son.
In Lakki Marwat district, a 16-month old Anam was diagnosed with polio after she fell ill on December 16, 2018 and her father Afzal Khan took her to hospital.
Anam belongs to Bana Manji town of Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district. The district’s main hospital’s Emergency Operation Center officials said that doctors suspected polio’s symptoms in Anam after her examination. Her samples were also sent to NIH Islamabad where medical laboratory confirmed that she was affected with polio.
Both the cases have been reported after sending the children’s samples and confirming polio diagnosed in December 2018. The authorities added the case to last year 2018 tally.
