Pakistan knocked out by Australia in World T20 2016

MOHALI — Australia beat Pakistan by 21 runs in a World Twenty20 Super 10 stage match here to stay on course for the semi-finals and eliminate Shahid Afridi’s side from the tournament.

Australia captain Steven Smith hit an unbeaten 63 off 43 balls to steer his side to 193-4, before James Faulkner took five wickets, including two off consecutive deliveries in the final over, to help his team seal the win.

For Pakistan, Shoaib Malik scored an unbeaten 40 off 20 balls to take Pakistan to 172 towards the end of the 20th over.

With New Zealand already assured of a semifinal berth from the group with three straight wins, Australia’s next game against India here on Sunday has become a virtual quarterfinal with the winner advancing to the last four.
