Female doctors receive serious threats over polio drive in Waziristan

Two female doctors have been threated by unknown ‘anti-polio’ elements in South Waziristan Tribal District (SWTD). The doctors were posted in Shiekh Fatima Bin Mubarak Hospital Wana, where they were warned to give up polio drive or face the consequences.

The two doctors are mother and daughter who demanded government authorities to provide them security. Dr Tasleem Shabir is serving as Gynecologist and her daughter Dr Maleena Anum as children Specialist told that they have also reported the issue to police in Peshawar.

“We have lodged an application against it in police station, Michni Gate, Peshawar that has been forward to Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for further process,” Dr Tasleem remarked.

She maintained that it was not the first happen but in 2011, they had been barred from conducting the polio campaign in Karak district when they were performing duty.

The doctors demanded government to provide them security from anti-social elements and let them execute their duties with concentration and devotion.
